Do you have confidential papers that you want to clear out of your
house, but you don’t have a shredder or don’t have the time to feed
them one by one into a tiny home shredder? OCRRA has several solutions for you!
1) Visit OCRRA's Shred-o-rama!
WHEN: Saturday, October 11 from 8 AM - noon
WHERE: Alliance Bank Stadium, enter from Grant Boulevard.
2) Bring
them to OCRRA's Rock Cut Road Transfer Station,
during regular hours or operation
where you can make use of our vending shredder! All you have to do is set aside
some time and a few dollars and you can make quick work of those confidential
documents. Before your very eyes, you will see your documents completely destroyed,
and you have the added bonus of knowing the shredded paper is shipped to a local
firm for recycling.
What items should go into the OCRRA shredder? Many experts
on identity theft suggest shredding anything that has a signature, account number,
social security number, medical or legal information (plus credit card offers).
Hints for having a great OCRRA shredding experience:
- Feed the documents in groups of no more than 20 sheets at a time. Any more
than 20 sheets can result in a jam.
- Place smaller items, such as receipts, in one envelope and shred them together.
- Keep loose clothing, jewelry, and hair away from the shredder opening.
- Do not put anything in the shredder you do not want destroyed. Once it is
in the machine there is no recovery option.
The shredder uses a vending system: For every dollar a resident inserts, they
receive four minutes of shredding time. Once the cycle time begins, documents
can be fed into the machine 20 sheets at a time. Attempting to shred more than
20 sheets of paper at once can result in jamming. Typically, about 200 sheets
can be shredded within the four minute period. The machine accepts one, five,
and ten dollar bills only. It does not accept change.
Businesses that need paper shredding services should be aware that the machine
is primarily designed for homeowners with relatively small quantities of paper
to destroy.
Businesses may find a more efficient shredding method by contacting one of the local companies that specialize in business document destruction.
